Children of Katrina

“Save The Children”
The Photo Relief Committee has been working to organize the ASMP South
Florida Photo Relief Print Sale to benefit the “Save the Children”
organization and the children affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita,
which we had proposed for this month but the logistics of locating a space
appropriate for this event has taken longer than anticipated.
However, as of today, we have secured a fabulous space in the Design
District in the Newton building located at 3901 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami
33137-3621. The property owners, Dacra, have generously given us access to
a two level space with glass street front exposure on both floors for the
next “Art Gallery Walk” which will occur on Thursday Nov. 10, in the
Design District
We will have a very large space for prints to hang on the walls and/or be
displayed on tables or racks. We are also proposing to do a live shoot,
creating digital portraits on three different sets and printing them out
on Epson printers. Prints would start at 13x19 for a donation related to
print size. Our idea is to create a high-end shoot with classic lighting
that would best display the styles and talents of our member
photographers.
We feel this would help attract the public as an event going on during the
evening and bring more people in to the space. We will be asking for
volunteers to offer some time behind the camera. We will be featuring you
as celebrity shooters and would hope to bring in some higher profile
people with an extensive PR effort.
At the moment, live music is being arranged and with the help of our
friends at Atlex, we will secure the equipment and supplies needed. This
should be a 5 star event for a great cause.
We need your help.
Please donate 1-5 prints of any size matted and signed. Please place a
value on the print, which we can use as a reserve price in an auction or
in exchange for a donation.
We have plenty of wall space so we encourage everyone to be generous for
this worthy cause. As we said in the last release, ALL proceeds will go to
“Save the Children”. We expect with the help of Dacra, who will be doing a
their own press releases as well as contacting the local galleries and
artists.
This event should show what we are about as photographers and members of
the American Society of Media Photographers. We have already received a
number of prints but need many more to make this a successful event. We
call on you to show what you stand for.
