Event review of “A Portrait of China”
Posted: Thursday, May 5, 2005
Gallery opening Friday, April 29th at 12345 West Dixie
(a commercial photography studio and gallery)
More than 100 people enjoyed an uncommon treat Friday night at a gallery show of photographic images of a province in China rarely visited by Westerners. The exhibit, held at 12345 West Dixie, a loft-style studio and gallery owned by photographers Paul Morris and Debra Gray Mitchell, was the result of a trip taken last October by members and student members the of American Society of Media Photographers, South Florida Chapter.
Guests of the Chinese Photographers Association, the group traveled to Duyun, Guizhou Province in the mountainous region of south central China. They were there to participate in the Sixth Photographic Arts Festival of China.
The images, both projected and hung as prints, resonated with the brilliant, saturated colors of Chinese life. A bird in a cage against a vivid red wall, flags at a folk festival, a farmer in a field of intense green – the photographs give the viewer a glimpse of life in a part of the world too seldom seen.
The exhibit can be seen until the end of May. Please call 305 895-2956 for more information.
