Eric Meola & Elephant Stamps
Posted: Tuesday, February 22, 2005

Your Board at work; Paul Morris, Scott Bell, Eric Meola, Larry Gatz, Matt Pace, Sandy Levy
Grammar school, second grade, PS#7, the Bronx.
Our teacher exasperated by all the little wise guys devised a plan to help turn us into goodies. After each assignment and at the end of the week she would line us up at her desk with our black and white speckled composition books in hand. There in the back of the book she would stamp a red elephant on the inside cover. Of course this little wise guy thought it was funny but after a while I wanted as many of them as I could get.
At the end of the month, she would then have us count how many elephant stamps we had. The two top winners got a movie ticket or some kind of recognition that would make us proud of our stamps.
Last night with Eric Meola, we were inspired by not only his work but his recognition of "why I got into photography in the first place.." He turned from top end advertising shooter to pursue his love of the art itself and undertook a personal vision, shot from the heart. He shared that with us last night and made a few good points. For those of us who attended, I believe they understood.
I would like to thank the board for their good work on this event and our volunteer helpers last night. In particular I would like to recognize one board member Hester Mitrani for being our Chapter Caterer. She always handles our foods and drinks well and knows what the crowd is in the mood for.
Hester also is the one who produced our Chapter Archive, something we will re-visit and upgrade in the next few months.
Larry Gatz, another board member who put this event together with Canon and their "Explorers of Light" series. As a past program director, I know this isn't easy.
Hester= 2 elephant stamps
