Last President’s Message
This will be my last message as President of the South Florida Chapter and
the first thing I would like to do is to thank my board of directors for
all their hard work, time, dedication, and great ideas to move the chapter
forward. I say “my” board of directors, but they are really “your” board
of directors, because they have unselfishly served you, the members of
ASMP South Florida, throughout these last three years.
The board and I had one main objective when I became President; growth.
Specifically, we wanted to grow the board of directors, the chapter
membership, and the treasury. I think we’ve succeeded with all three of
our goals. We have a strong group of dedicated board members, our
membership has grown, and our treasury is quite healthy; in fact, we are
among the strongest chapters in the country. A good portion of our
treasury growth comes from the generous support of our local sponsors who
have helped us present some wonderful programs here in South Florida.
Even though I will no longer be president, I will continue to stay on the
board and rededicate myself to not only keeping the current members we now
have, but to also bring “new blood” into the organization, and that’s
where the board and I need your help. We have tried to restructure the
monthly meetings to be of more interest to the established photographer
with topics that will be of immediate help to your bottom line, or
technical expertise. Therefore, we encourage you to attend an upcoming
meeting of interest to you, and to invite your assistants to attend the
meetings and to join ASMP. Also, since national has changed the membership
categories to help the emerging photographers afford to join, please
invite upcoming photographers you know to attend the meetings and join. As
professional photographers, we all need to understand that our clients
need to take what we do seriously, so please encourage your colleagues to
become members of this organization. We are still the best-known
organization out there in the commercial world and we membership still say
very clearly that you are a professional.
On a different note, we are constantly seeing the profound changes that
are occurring in our industry every day. It’s not just the addition of
“digital” imaging to our world, but the changes in our client relations,
and lab relations. We all need a forum to interact and bring our own
ideas, thoughts and experiences together, and ASMP is that place. The
member forum on the internet has a constant stream of topics that are
member driven. Let’s all remember that we are stronger as a group, so join
in on the forum discussions to new ideas and help on how to hold onto our
image rights, so that we may get and keep the fees that will help all of
us prosper during these difficult times.
My thanks to all of you who have participated in this fine chapter and who
continue to give of your time and efforts to promote the ideals and ethics
of ASMP here in South Florida.
